Delete your account

Your account is yours to end, and you do not have to ask anyone or give a reason. Here is how, what goes, what stays, and how long it takes.
On iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings → Privacy and Security.
- Under “Delete my account”, tap If away for.
- Choose Delete Account Now and confirm.
On Android
This version of the Android app can set the timer that deletes an unused account after a period away, but it cannot yet delete an account on the spot. Until it can, write to hello@2bytes.app with the phone number the account uses. We reply the same day and confirm once it is done. Adding the in-app button is on our list, and this page will change when it lands.
By email, from any platform
Write to hello@2bytes.app from any address, saying which phone number the account uses. We may send a code to that number to check the request comes from its owner — this is the only protection against someone deleting your account for you. The account is deleted within one working day of that check.
What is deleted
- Your profile: name, username and photo.
- Your phone number is released, so the account can no longer be signed into or reached.
- Every signed-in device is signed out, immediately.
- Your notification token, so nothing further is ever sent to your devices.
- Your message history and the files you sent, the address book you uploaded, your settings and your group memberships.
What is kept, and why
Messages you already sent are copies that now live with the people you sent them to. Deleting your account does not reach into their apps — that is true of this messenger and every other one.
Everything else goes with the account: your message history and files, the address book you uploaded, your settings, and your place in other people's contact lists.
Server logs, which record requests and IP addresses, age out after 30 days regardless.
How long it takes
From the app, deletion happens at once. By email, within one working day of us confirming the request is yours.
Starting again
Nothing stops you from signing up again later with the same number. It will be a new, empty account — the old one is gone, not paused, and nothing comes back with it.
